Our verdict
Income is the only platform in this table that designed its protection structure around the assumption that an originator will fail. On top of the ordinary buyback it holds a junior tranche, a cash reserve and — the part that actually matters — a monitoring account that lets it seize the originator's incoming borrower payments directly. That has been tested: when Lion Finance defaulted, Income recovered investor capital through exactly that mechanism. The remaining concern is scale, not design.
What works
- Cashflow buffer plus a monitoring account that lets Income intercept borrower repayments if an originator fails
- Demonstrated a real recovery through this structure rather than only describing it
- Unusually detailed originator-level disclosure, including audited accounts
- ECSPR licensed in Estonia
What doesn't
- Small platform — the loan supply can run thin and cash drag is a real problem
- Short history relative to the risk being underwritten
- The protection structure is complex enough that most users do not actually understand what they hold
- Fewer originators than Mintos, so in-platform diversification is limited
Who this is for
Investors who read the structure documents and want the best-designed downside protection in the sector, accepting that the platform is still small.
