Our verdict
Mintos is the closest thing the sector has to an incumbent, and it is the only platform most investors should consider as a core holding. It survived the 2020 originator collapses with its reporting intact, it publishes recovery data on the loans that went bad, and it now holds both a crowdfunding licence and an investment firm licence — a combination no competitor matches. The price of that is yield: after fees and cash drag, a diversified Mintos portfolio realistically lands a point or two below the headline number.
What works
- The deepest originator selection in Europe, which makes genuine diversification possible inside one account
- Licensed as an investment firm, so loans are held as notes with a regulated issuer rather than as a claim on the platform
- Publishes recovery figures on defaulted and suspended originators instead of quietly removing them
- Secondary market is liquid enough to exit most positions within days
What doesn't
- Headline returns overstate what you actually receive once cash drag and the 0.39% annual fee are counted
- The originator marketplace model means you are still exposed to the credit quality of small lenders in volatile markets
- Recovery on the 2020-era suspended originators is still incomplete years later
- The interface has grown complex enough that new investors routinely misconfigure auto-invest
Who this is for
Investors who want one well-regulated account as the backbone of a P2P allocation and accept a lower yield for it. Not the right choice if you are chasing the highest number in the table.
